This morning I paid a visit to a local legend. According to iNaturalist data---until recently (2024)---the northern-population of the invasive aquatic plant Alligatorweed, Alternanthera philoxeroides, was found right here in College Park. Now there is one in Delaware too.

There is a good chance that climate warming of just 2 degrees will make most of the state of Maryland hospitable high abundance alligatorweed populations: https://www.eddmaps.org/distribution/uscounty.cfm?sub=2779&map=abundancehabitat
